Cantran Region Pokemon Related RP Rules, Guidelines, and Format
For future reference, please be sure to keep updated on this thread or bookmark it. There will be possible updates.
Greetings to all that want to participate in various Cantran Region related Pokémon RPGs. I would like to thank you for being interested in playing along with our community. However, before you get started on any Pokémon related RPGs for the Cantran Region, I’d like to make sure there is an understanding of the Cantran Region Pokémon RPG Guidelines and Format.
First of all, be sure to read the RP Rules and Guidelines thread, located here:
Hopefully you have already acquainted yourself with the sites rules, as well as the RP Rules and Guidelines thread. That being said, all of the already established rules and guidelines for the forums apply to this board as well. Any offenses to these pre-established rules and guidelines will lead to automatic disqualification. Please report any abuse of the rules and guidelines to me.
Now that being said, the point of the Cantran Region is to provide a fan region for players to adventure in. Players are welcome to visit any of the established locations in Cantran, as well as any region outside of Cantran. Players are also welcome to introduce their own fan-regions as long as they discuss it with the site administrator. All posts for Pokemon related RP Adventures must be posted in Tier 2 or Tier 1 format (you can find an explaination in the RP Rules and Guidelines Thread).
Posting an RP
Any roleplays that are created must be posted as threads. In order to conserve forum data and prevent overwhelming threads, please make a new thread as soon as a thread hits 70 to 100 pages.
Thread = Location - A thread that depicts a location you are in. The events of this thread take place in the location of the RP players.
Thread = Story - A thread depicting a storyline or important plot. This is a bit more advanced, and takes place over several possible locations and events.
Exploration:
All users partaking in any RPs in the Cantran Region and other pre-existing regions are welcome to explore the entirety of the map. While a map does exist with pre-plotted routes and locations, the map is entirely free-range. That means, in layman’s terms, you can explore the entire map other than those premade routes and locations. You are not limited to traveling those routes. In the event you’d like to add a new, permanent location to the map of Cantran, please contact the site administrator and discuss it via PM. If your idea works well, it might be added to the map!
Text Based Battles:
All RP battles are turn based. Users are welcome to discuss how battles will go privately via PM in order to plan them out. This sort of thing governs itself; however, all rules and regulations regarding RPs apply here. That means absolutely no godmoding and other such discrepancies to RP formats. Staged fights are permitted.
Wi-Fi Battles:
This allows members of RPs and the forum to participate in a much more interactive experience when partaking in roleplays. The simple idea is that if challenged to a battle, or something of that sort, players are welcome to determine the outcome of the RP by actually exchanging friend code information and battling over the Nintendo Wi-Fi Connection in their Pokémon games. Rules for the battle are welcome to be discussed by the players in the roleplay, however a few simple rules for this are expected:
-Do not use hacked Pokémon
-Refrain from using Legendaries unless it is part of the RP (following international competition regulations)
-Any EVs and other such competitive tools are completely permitted, so if you are challenging an opponent whose team is EV trained, expect to be at a disadvantage.
-Staged fights are permitted for progression of storyline
Gym System:
Here on the Cantran Forums, a group of members will have the jobs of being the Gym Leaders and other important battle-based characters of Cantran. These characters will have two important roles on the site. The first role is controlling their characters for text based roleplay. The second role is having the job of being the sites Wi-Fi Gym System. The thread for this can be found here:
There are two types of ways to challenge the Gym Leaders of Cantran. The first format is extremely simple, and it follows the simple path of Text Based RP. Players are allowed to challenge a Gym Leader through story based text along their adventures. The guidelines for this follow the Text Based Battle guidelines.
The second format is a bit more complex. This involves the opportunity to challenge the Gym Leader of a location not only via Text Based RP, but using the Nintendo Wi-Fi and actually determining the outcome via Pokémon Wi-Fi Competitive Battling. In order to do this, you must have Wi-Fi compatibility. It is also advised to have a team that is EV Trained, as well as based on your Text RP team. This allows the RP to be a bit more interactive. The rules for the Wi-Fi Battle section apply to this as well. Players who are the Cantran Region Gym leaders are expected to have EV trained Pokémon in some way, and are expected to follow the guidelines set in the Cantran Gym Leaders thread.
Gym Leaders are permitted to create gimicks for their gyms, along with the type of battle and rules of the battle (as long as they don't go overboard).
Staged fights are not permitted for Gym Leader Battles, unless it is part of the storyline for the player against the Gym Leader is to lose or be interrupted during a fight, or other such personal matters.
About Effort Value Training:
Effort Value Training, or EV training, is important to the Wi-Fi battle system. While it is not required, it is advised that you EV train your teams for Wi-Fi action, otherwise disadvantages might occur. Again, this is not necessary, but well advised.
While it may seem difficult, it isn't very hard to do at all, but may require time to be invested in (aside from Black and White 2, which introduced the Join Avenue feature). You can read about EV Training here:
Pokémon Teams
Any players participating in Pokémon Related RPs are welcome to have separate teams dedicated for each of their Original Characters, as well as multiple teams that they can switch around. It is advised to have these same teams in game for the Wi-Fi events as well as the Wi-Fi Battle system/Gym system. Legendary Pokémon are not permitted for Wi-Fi battles unless they are pre-plotted in an RP session. It is also advised to have your Pokémon teams EV trained for Wi-Fi battles. Gym Leaders must have teams themed with their designated gyms, but are welcome to have offhand teams unrelated to their primary team.
About Legendary Pokemon
In order to prevent issues in rosters, storylines, and other such events (not including alternate timelines and other such possible distortions), Legendary Pokémon will be limited to one per species of legendary. This does not apply to pseudo-legendaries because they are not actual Legendary Pokémon. If it is part of the storyline of a RP to capture a Legendary Pokémon, please discuss it with the site administrators and other members of the forum to ensure fairness and progression of storyline. This will help with the possibility of too many Legendary Pokémon existing in an RP, along with too many of the same kind being present at the same time. Besides, the concept of most legendaries is the key factor of, "There is only one."
About Competition-Banned Pokémon
Any Pokémon aside from Legendary Pokémon are open to use. This includes pseudo-legendary Pokémon. However, if these Pokémon are to be used in a Wi-Fi battle, please be sure to make sure it is fair in an enough sense to not ruin an RP.
